So today I went to the Walking In My Mind exhibition at the Hayward Gallery (http://www.southbankcentre.co.uk/visual-arts/productions/walking-in-my-mind-46998). The accompanying exhibition guide describes it as, "an expedition into the mysterious mental processes of creativity; about what goes on inside the artist's head."
Some of it is too obvious, some of it is too vague, some of it is inspired, some of it is bloody awful. Indeed, inconsistency reigns in this patchy show that is part wacky brilliance and part over-indulgent fine art wankery.
Keith Tyson's Studio Wall Drawings were perhaps my personal highlight, particularly an absolutely epic 21-panel multi-media piece that adorned an entire wall dealing in the first room

I also enjoyed Thomas Hirschhorns cavemanman, a sprawling complex of caves and tunnels made from cardboard and glossy brown packing tape.

Finally, you may have already seen Yayoi Kusama's work on 25 trees beside the river thames:

but the rest of her work is even more impressive, there is a child-like sense of wonder about her installations, particularly a corridor full of floating polka-dotted soft forms; a kind of Alice in Wonderland style surrealism. The forms outdoors on the roof reminded me of the Mario games.
All in all, this is worth seeing. Some of it tries a little bit too hard to be controversial and shocking but hey, its modern art, you've got to expect it. The good definitely outweighs the bad; I give it 3.5/5.

Nice review mate.
