Well, its about time I tore into the helpful infrastructure that the government has created to combat the new influenza virus H1N1, more commonly known as "swine flu." I want you all to read this article by the BBC about the spreading pandemic (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8163930.stm), and I want you to use the quotes that I will lay out for you in a bit to critically analyze how seriously bored we all must be with our lives that we need to worry about something that does not hold a candle in terms of mortality rate to things like... the normal flu, or the common cold, or things we even have vaccines for like Hepatitis. Anywho, the first quote:
"... in the first few hours the website was receiving 2,600 hits a second - or 9.3m an hour." This is in reference to how many people contacted a website set up by the National Flu Service to get anti-viral medication for people who are "infected" (zombies?), the latest figures have just over 100 thousand infected in Britain, clearly there is a disconnect in communication and someone is wrong either, the estimated figure of 100 thousand people infected is wrong, and in reality over 41 % of the just over 61 million people of the UK are infected and are in need of medication, OR... OR people need to chill the fuck out, go to work, send their kids to school and, if they still can't relax, wash their hands..
This next selection from the article actually starts out nullifying the spread of panic that the media seems to want to create by mentioning that, actually, no one has died in a week, and that number of people is at 26, and that, however heartless you may think me, is not a lot, considering. The rest of the quote is just mind bottling, that, for those uninitiated, is a situation that your brain fails to contemplate, leaving it so confused that it feels like your brain is in a bottle. "The latest death toll stands at 26 - the same as last week - but the Department of Health has reclassified the way it counts mortality." <- Help.
